the gap

A long transverse ditch, approximately 100 meters long and around ten meters deep, protects the castle from easy access via the plateau. Dry, this ditch connects the two valleys which shaped the promontory of Poilvache. The site is a barred spur. Recent excavations have cleaned it up well. Come and admire!

The clearance of the walls shows that the enclosure has several walls. Archaeologists tend to interpret this device as a “false braie” or a “boulevard” or “boloirque”.
